Product Overview

MDA-MB-231 traces back to the pleural effusion of a 51-year-old female patient whose breast cancer had metastasized; the resulting line is classed as a human breast adenocarcinoma. Under the microscope the cells look epithelial-like and spindle-shaped, and researchers turn to them routinely as an in vitro stand-in for aggressive, highly invasive triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). What defines the line is vigorous migration and invasion, a high metastatic potential, and growth that does not depend on anchorage.

Those same traits make it a valuable system for probing tumor progression, epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), cancer cell invasion, metastasis, and the evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies. Rapid proliferation and the line's unique biological characteristics do mean transfection conditions frequently have to be tuned so that gene delivery stays efficient and the cells stay viable. GenJet™ DNA In Vitro Transfection Reagent for MDA-MB-231 Cells ships pre-optimized for exactly that, moving plasmid DNA into MDA-MB-231 cells efficiently.

Performance Data

GenJet™ In Vitro DNA Transfection Reagent for MDA-MB231 Cells – GFP transfection in MDA-MB-231 cells
A representative image demonstrating the transfection efficiency of GenJet™ Transfection Reagent in MDA-MB-231 cells. MDA-MB-231 cells were cultured under ATCC-recommended growth conditions and transfected with the GFP reporter plasmid pEGFP-N3 using GenJet™ reagent. Transfection efficiency was assessed 24 hours post-transfection by evaluating GFP expression using fluorescence microscopy.

Applications

This DNA transfection reagent supports a range of molecular biology applications including transient and stable transfection, reporter assays, protein expression studies, and gene function analysis in mammalian cell systems.
